In northern and western Europe fruit-bearing vegetables such as "Pumpkins, Squash And Gourds" are often grown in heated greenhouses. The emissions from the energy used for such heating are not yet included in the above footprint. "Pumpkins, Squash And Gourds" grown in heated greenhouses have a much higher footprint than shown here. We are working on adding greenhouse emissions to our calculations and will update all our footprints as soon as we're done!

What is "kg CO2e"?

Counting in "kg CO2e" is a standard way to combine emissions of different greenhouse gases into a single climate footprint number.
We combine emissions from greenhouse gases such as nitrous oxide, carbon dioxide and methane into "kg CO2e", by thinking:
"How many kilograms of carbon dioxide would it take to get the same global warming effect?"
